Crosshall Junior School

Admissions Consultation

We are undertaking an important consultation regarding our school’s admission arrangements for the next seven years, beginning with the academic year 2027-28.  As part of this process, we are proposing a reduction to our Published Admission Number (PAN).

Currently, our PAN stands at 120, which reflects the maximum number of pupils we can admit into Year Three each year. After careful consideration of local demographic trends, projected pupil numbers, and our commitment to maintaining high-quality education and optimal class sizes, we are proposing to reduce our PAN to 90.

This change is intended to:

  • Ensure sustainable class sizes that support effective teaching and learning.

  • Align our admissions with current and forecasted demand.

  • Maintain the quality of provision and resources available to each child.

Additionally, we wish to amend the school’s oversubscription criteria as outlined below:

When there are more applications for places than there are places available, priority will be given in the following order:

  1. SEND:  The School will admit children with a Statement of Special Educational Need (SEN) / Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names Crosshall Junior School as the appropriate school for the child and where we have agreed that we can meet the needs of the child.
  2. Looked after children and all previously looked after children.

  3. Children living in the catchment area who would be in receipt of the Service Premium. (The service premium is additional funding paid annually to schools under section 14 of the Education Act 2002 for the purposes of supporting the pastoral needs of the children of Armed Services personnel.)

  1. Children who live in the catchment area who attend Crosshall Infant School at the time of application.

  2. Children who live in the catchment area and have a sibling at Crosshall Infant School or Crosshall Junior School at the date of application.

If a tie-break is necessary to determine which child is admitted, the child living closest to the school measured in a straight line will be given priority for admission.

If there are two or more children with exactly the same circumstances, (e.g., the same distance measurement), then Random Allocation, undertaken by a person unconnected with the school or the Trust, will be used as a tie-break to decide who has highest priority for admission.

The intention of this change is to refine our over subscription criteria, making them more straight forward to both understand and apply.

We would be grateful for considerations and any comments you wish to submit as part of this process. Please direct responses to: forms.office.com/e/g9FN4Gz9jJ
