General Information For Parents
THE SCHOOL DAY
We offer a Soft Start: early entry into school between 8:35 and 8:45 via the blue door.
This enables the students to put bags and belongings away before the day begins. Please ensure that your child is in the school building by 8:45.
Students who arrive at school after this time should report to the School Office and will be marked as late if they arrive after 8:55.
Absence From School
If your child needs to be late or absent from school, please report this by telephoning the School Office (01480 475972) or by submitting the absence form on our website (Absence Form) by 8:55. Please report your child's absence for every day they are absent from school.
Any absences for which we have not had an acceptable explanation will be classed as unauthorised.
Please inform your child’s class teacher in writing if you need to take your child out during the school day and collect/return them via the School Office.
Holiday during term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances.

HOME SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
We believe that an active partnership with the school will help you to get the very best education for your child. Education does not stop at the school gate. Teachers need your support in their efforts to help your child do the best he or she can. Please make sure your child attends regularly and arrives promptly with the right equipment. He/She may need a quiet space to work at home and will need your encouragement to complete work. He/She will bring home books to share with you. We hope you will find time for these and other educational activities.
We would like to take this opportunity to say that you are always welcome in school should you wish to share any skills or interests with the children. If you would like to help in class, do please approach your child’s new class teacher.
All helpers must have a DBS check.
School Uniform & Equipment
The wearing of school uniform helps promote a sense of belonging to a thriving community. It is an expectation that all Crosshall students will wear the approved school uniform:
NB: Nail varnish is not permitted to be worn during the school day.
If a child is in school in the wrong uniform, we will contact parents to establish why this is the case and agree a timescale for it to be rectified.
Sweatshirts, cardigans, polo shirts and T-shirts with the school logo may be purchased online at www.totalclothing.co.uk/cjs. The online shop also sells a number of other items such as bags, hats and clothing labels. The locker space is very limited and we ask that students bring books to school in their PE bags or book bags.
The wearing of jewellery is not permitted unless it is part of an ethnic cultural background. The only exception to this is a wrist watch. If students do have pierced ears, for health and safety reasons, they must only wear one simple stud in the traditional place. The wearing of earrings constitutes a safety hazard in PE and sport and, as such, on days when students are involved in these activities, earrings must not be worn to school. If they do wear them to school on a PE day, they will need to remove them for the PE lesson.
If ears are newly pierced, a plaster may be worn over the earring during PE lessons. However, this is only permitted for a period of six weeks from the date ears were first pierced. A note must be brought into school informing the class teacher that ears have been newly pierced.
Earrings are not permitted on the Adventure Playground.
MOBILE PHONES/TABLETS/SMART WATCHES
As part of our ongoing review of modern technologies and internet safety, we would like to draw your attention to a statement which has been added to the school's Computer Use Policy. It states that 'students may not bring any mobile devices onto school premises that are capable of sending and receiving messages/phone calls or connecting to the internet in any way’.
In a change to our previous expectations, we no longer require pupils to provide their own pen, pencil, ruler, colouring pencils and such like. The school will provide these; the only thing we require from parents is a glue stick. As a result, students will not require a pencil case in their classroom. If they do bring one to school to use at breaks or at a club, it will remain in their bag during lesson times.
Dinner is charged at £2.35 per day.
Autumn - First Half Term (4th September – 23rd October 2020) charge is £84.60.
Parents/Carers are encouraged to register on our online payment system: PMX Parentmail. You can register on the system once the School Office emails you a link. Please note we will use the email you provided on your child’s registration documents.
Alternatively, please send your payment into school on Monday mornings in an envelope specifying your child's name, class and amount included. Please keep dinner money separate from other monies. Parents can pay weekly or half termly. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Crosshall Junior School’.
Students may have a mixture of school lunches and packed lunches; however, they must follow the same set pattern. If a change is required, the kitchen will need two weeks’ notice.
Parents are also welcome to join their child for lunch. As places are limited, please book early via the School Office to avoid disappointment. Adult visitors are charged at £5 per lunch.*
We also offer the opportunity to celebrate Mother's and Father's Day by inviting parents and grandparents to have lunch with the children at school.*
