School Trips

The school enriches its curriculum through a wide variety of interesting day and residential trips.

Boreatton

Year Six’s residential trip is a five day outdoor adventure camp at Boreatton Park in Shropshire.  The trip is one of the highlights of Year Six and is remembered by children for many years to come.  The children camp in tents with their friends and enjoy an action-packed week of outdoor adventure activities.  Activities include kayaking, raft building, archery, trapeze, climbing and much more!

Bowling

Year Six also organise social trips in the evenings for the children.  In the past, Year Six have gone bowling, been to the cinema and gone swimming.  These events are always much enjoyed by staff and children and provide a fun way to relax and socialise.

Burwell House

The Year Three residential trip takes place at Burwell House near Cambridge. The trip forms an important part of the geography environmental curriculum enabling us to study those aspects that are difficult to cover in the classroom. The children will undertake a wide range of map reading and environmental activities within the three acres of grounds and around the village of Burwell itself. The ‘Burwell Fox’ is a particularly memorable game, which is always the children’s favourite! Residential trips also provide an invaluable opportunity for the children to develop their independence and social skills while living with their peers away from home.

Cecil Higgins Museum

As part of the history curriculum, Year Six welcome volunteers from the Cecil Higgins Museum in Bedford to talk about life in Victorian Britain. Children are able to examine original Victorian artefacts and take part in a costume session to experience Victorian clothing first hand.

Church Visit

In December, Year Six walk down to St. Mary’s church in Eaton Socon to find out more about a Christian place of worship in the build up to Christmas.  As well as an informative talk, the children are able to sketch different parts of the church and ask as many questions as they can think of.

Duloe Brook

Year Five visit Duloe Brook as part of their 'Investigating Rivers' topic in geography. At the brook they carry out a flora and fauna study, measure the speed of the water and measure its width.

Duxford - Imperial War Museum

Year Six visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford to explore what life was like in Britain during World War II.  The children spend a brilliant day looking round the hangers and exhibits and are able to enjoy an interactive session all about the ‘Home Front’ given by the Duxford experts.  The day provides excellent ideas for the children’s iDiscover project work later in the Autumn term.

Fitzwilliam Museum and the Museum of Classical Archaeology

During the Greek topic Year Three visit the extensive collections of Greek artefacts that are held in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. The children have the chance to look at real artefacts that are over two thousand years old. At the Museum of Classical Archaeology we have the opportunity to sketch life size replicas of sculptures from the Greek temples and meet a three metre tall Herakles.

France

Each year, the children from Year Five visit France for four days. The children travel to France by coach and Le Shuttle. While in France, the children have the opportunity to practise their spoken language as well as being able to sample aspects of the French culture.  The trip includes visits to: a fish market; a boulangerie; a discothèque; an aquarium; the beach; an ice cream shop and a sweet shop.

Hatfield House

During the autumn term, Year Five visit Hatfield House to develop their understanding of Tudor times. As part of the ‘Living History’ visit, the children meet Henry VIII, along with others members of his family and staff.

Hinchingbrooke Park

In the Summer Term, Year Six visit Hinchingbrooke Country Park in Huntingdon as part of the geography and science curriculum.  The children take part in a range of exciting activities such as orienteering, mini-beast identification and scavenger hunting.  They also meet beekeepers and get the chance to see bees in a living hive.

Houghton

As part of the Greography topic 'Villages', children go on a day trip to the village of Houghton. During the day they have the opportunity to visit a village school, meet the village vicar and learn about the church building, sketch houses and complete map work.

Legion Fourteen

As part of the Year Three Greek topic we have a visit from Legion Fourteen. A Spartan woman shows us what it may have been like to live in ancient Sparta. The children can handle artefacts such as bronze mirrors, combs, writing tablets and lamps. In the afternoon two Greek warriors, Lysander and Arion, tell the children all about the Greeks at war with a practical weapons display on the field.
