Children from all year groups take part in gifted and talented work. Children are encouraged to:
- Use their knowledge and skills creatively
- Take risks with their work
- Accept that sometimes taking risks means ‘getting it wrong’
- Persevere when things are difficult
- Help support and challenge others within the group
- Understand the importance of speaking and listening skills during learning activities.
Work is differentiated for different year groups and extension tasks are prepared for the most able children. The small group size and flexible nature of the sessions gives the children the freedom and confidence to try out ideas and become even bolder and more adventurous in their learning.
Examples of these special sessions include:
- Design technology – designing and making a full-size puppet theatre
- History – an archaeological dig
- Problem solving – working with an Officer from London Metropolitan Police to solve a ‘murder’, examine the forensics of the crime scene and take part in the trial. This module involved a trip to the local Court
- Art – visits to art galleries
- Numeracy – MENSA puzzles requiring lateral thinking, code breaking and solving analytical problems using data
- Literacy – controversial discussion and debate
- Science –looking at how batteries work by using fruit.
