Local Information
St Neots is the largest town in the county of Cambridgeshire. There can be few places able to offer such a variety of features to both residents and visitors as this pretty market town.
St Neots boasts an impressive past, with tales of Benedictine monks, Oliver Cromwell, the Eynesbury Giant and an exciting coaching and river history, the fast expanding town of today provides excellent up to date facilities and events in a stunning location on the banks of the River Great Ouse.
Although rapid growth has taken place, the centre of St Neots still retains its character as a country market town. The town’s famous market square is one of the largest and most ancient of its kind in the country, dating back to the 12th century. A market has been held upon this square every Thursday since its foundation.
It is undoubtedly the meandering River Great Ouse, one of the country’s longest navigable rivers, which attracts the majority of visitors to the town. Nowhere is the setting of the river more enhanced than at St Neots, where it can be viewed from a lovely riverside park, set amongst huge weeping willow trees.
